In a significant development, a senior source from Iran’s Supreme National Security Council revealed that an American security delegation visited Iran last Thursday, facilitated by Omani intermediaries. The visit aimed to deliver a message of “calm and caution” to Tehran’s leadership, seeking to avert a major war allegedly being orchestrated by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, with support from Zionist lobbies in the United States.
The American delegation arrived in Iran via a private plane from Turkey, landing at Payam Airport in Karaj, west of Tehran. The meeting between the American and Iranian officials lasted for two hours under the supervision of the Revolutionary Guards, after which the delegation returned to Ankara. During the meeting, the Americans conveyed a message opening a “face-saving” response window for Iran following the recent assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. They warned against falling into a “revenge trap.”
The American delegation reiterated to the Iranian officials that the United States was not aware of the operation to assassinate Ismail Haniyeh, emphasizing President Joe Biden’s discontent with Netanyahu’s unilateral actions. The Americans concluded that Netanyahu’s continued leadership does not serve global security and peace, as he appears uncontrollable.
The source indicated that the Biden administration is keen on implementing fundamental changes and establishing new regional equations that exclude the current Israeli Prime Minister. The delegation noted that Netanyahu is attempting to escalate the situation to drag the entire region into a comprehensive conflict.
The American delegation provided Iran with a list of Mossad agents within the country, inviting Iran to engage in a nuclear agreement that would anger Tel Aviv. They conveyed that Netanyahu shared his plans for a major war with senior Zionist lobby officials during his recent visit to Washington. Netanyahu believes that such a war would force all regional countries, including Arab, Gulf states, and Turkey, to sit at the negotiation table, accepting Israel’s right to exist in exchange for comprehensive peace.
The Americans shared parts of Netanyahu’s plan, which involves destroying the infrastructure of regional countries before achieving a comprehensive settlement. They warned that Iran’s retaliation could give Netanyahu an opportunity to escape internal and external pressures. The U.S. expressed hope that Iran would not fall into Netanyahu’s trap, emphasizing their preference for resolving conflicts through diplomatic channels and awaiting Iran’s response regarding the nuclear agreement proposal.
Iran’s security forces have arrested around 30 individuals, including high-ranking officials, and about 50 foreigners, mainly Afghans who entered the country illegally, on suspicion of involvement in the assassination. The delegation informed Iran that Netanyahu’s plan could compel the region into a massive conflict that would benefit neither side.
In the wake of these developments, diplomatic messages and indicators in Lebanon suggest escalating tensions. Embassies are preparing evacuation plans, and the Swedish embassy has moved its entire staff to Cyprus, reflecting the growing risks.
The current situation remains highly volatile, with American efforts focused on preventing a major conflict and managing the delicate balance of power in the Middle East. The Biden administration’s diplomatic maneuvers aim to avert a large-scale war while maintaining pressure on Netanyahu’s government, which continues to push for escalation. The coming days will be critical in determining whether diplomatic efforts can succeed in calming the tensions or if the region will be drawn into further conflict.
