The Syrian Presidency said that Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has invited Bashar al-Assad to participate in the meeting of the Arab League Council at the summit level, which will be held in Jeddah on May 19.
And the “Syrian Presidency” explained, through its official accounts, that the invitation was conveyed to Bashar al-Assad, the Saudi ambassador to Jordan, Nayef al-Sudairi, while al-Assad conveyed his “greetings and thanks” to the Saudi monarch for sending the invitation.
In turn, the government agency “SANA” quoted Bashar al-Assad as saying to the Saudi ambassador Al-Sudairi after receiving the invitation that “the upcoming Arab summit in Saudi Arabia will enhance joint Arab action to achieve the aspirations of the Arab peoples.”
The invitation comes a day after Saudi Arabia and Syria decided to resume the work of their diplomatic missions, after more than a decade of closing embassies in the two countries.
The call also came days after the Arab League’s decision to end the suspension of Syria’s membership, and Damascus’ return to occupy its seat, which was frozen in 2011.
