A recent report by the “Syria Response Coordinators”, which regularly publishes data on the economic and humanitarian conditions in Northwest Syria, has revealed a significant increase in the percentage of families living below the poverty line in northwest Syria, reaching 91.18% by the end of last month.
According to the report, 41.05% of these families are experiencing severe hunger. The report, published on Sunday, highlighted that the minimum cost of living for a family of four, without relying on humanitarian aid, has reached approximately 10,000 Turkish Lira (the currency used in the region). Meanwhile, the poverty line is set at over 7,300 Lira per month, and the hunger threshold is around 4,400 Lira.
The report emphasized that all displaced persons living in camps are below the poverty line, with 33.18% of them living in severe hunger.
Additionally, the report noted a significant increase in the number of people requiring humanitarian assistance last month. This surge is attributed to a decrease in aid and the cessation of numerous previously existing projects in the camps.
The report also warned of a noticeable rise in begging, particularly among women and children, in various villages and towns across northwest Syria.
