Bashir Khader, Governor of Lebanon’s Baalbek-Hermel, said at a security meeting today Friday that between 20 and 30 Syrian refugee families enter Lebanese territory every day.
The mayors and officials of the Lebanese town of Arsal have complained about the competition between the Syrian workforce and the Lebanese workers.
Bashir Khedr, Governor of Baalbek-Hermel in Lebanon, held a meeting in Arsal in the presence of the leaders of the security services.
Khader said there are 174 camps for Syrian refugees in the town of Arsal, in addition to rental apartments and shops. We will work to establish law and security and to establish state authority in these lands, which are an integral part of the Lebanese state,” he said.
Referring to the “theft” process of electricity in the camps, Khader said, “I do not want to put pressure on the Syrian displaced, because the owner of the rented land is the person who steals and sells it to the displaced. Syrians steal electricity and hang it on the grid, this will be settled by paying the electricity bill.
Noting that the Lebanese authorities are apprehending 20 to 30 families of Syrian refugees who enter Lebanese territory every day around Arsal, Khader said, “These are subject to legal procedures and deportation, and these operations are often difficult and complex.”
He called for “activation of the preemptive security issue as the situation has become unbearable”.
