Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry stressed the importance of reviving the political process in Syria to settle the crisis as soon as possible, in accordance with relevant international resolutions, foremost of which is Security Council Resolution No. 2254, in order to preserve the integrity and unity of the Syrian state, and end all forms of “terrorism” and foreign interference. and an end to the suffering of the Syrian people.
This came during a meeting in Cairo with the United Nations Special Envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen.
Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said that Shoukry listened to Pedersen’s vision on developments in efforts to push for a political solution in Syria.
In a separate meeting with the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Pedersen considered that the earthquake in Syria demonstrated the possibility of showing good intentions by the various parties to the crisis, referring to the regime’s agreement to open two additional border crossings to deliver UN aid to northwestern Syria, and to suspend Western sanctions. .
