56 Syrian organizations called on the countries participating in the Brussels Donors Conference to support the earthquake-affected people by ensuring fair and sustainable humanitarian access to northwestern Syria.
In a statement, the organizations called for aid to reach all border crossings, in order to respond to the medium and long-term consequences.
The organizations stressed the need for the aid distribution mechanism after the earthquake to address the rehabilitation of damage to key public utilities, economic difficulties, and support for the resilience of affected communities.
The organizations stressed the importance of aid distribution mechanisms working in areas not under the control of the Syrian regime in northwestern Syria, through the participation of humanitarian organizations and Syrian civil society organizations, “including those who play quasi-governmental roles,” according to the “Syria TV” website.
The statement warned that the earthquake disaster should not come at the price of legalization or normalization with the Syrian regime, before achieving accountability for violations of international humanitarian law, and a political solution in accordance with Security Council Resolution 2254.
