The regime’s Minister of Electricity, Ghassan Al-Zamil, has refused to make any changes to electricity rationing programs during the month of Ramadan unless there is an improvement in energy carriers.
Al-Watan newspaper reported that Al-Zamil said that his ministry’s ability to provide electricity at the times of iftar and sahur depends on the availability of energy.
In another context, Al-Zamil pointed out that the issuance of new ration-free subscriptions (gold lines) has been stopped as the ministry has reached the upper limit of the estimated amounts of 400 megawatts planned to be allocated for these subscriptions. equivalent to 20% of the energy currently available in the network.”
He pointed out that about 75 percent of this energy, which comes from subscriptions exempt from rationing, goes to cities, industrial zones and vital facilities.
The Syrian minister pointed out that tourism and commercial enterprises with ration-free subscriptions receive the remaining one-fourth of the ration-exempt amounts.
Al-Zamil added that the rationing exempted contributions aim to increase the ministry’s financial revenues, especially as the ministry needs large sums of money to finance projects, investments and maintenance-repair works.
