US lawmakers warned that returning Damascus to the Arab League was a “strategic mistake”.
Republican Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee, tweeted on “Twitter”: “Bashar al-Assad is a war criminal and runs a drug state… More normalization is ignoring the regime’s violations.”
“Continuing Captagon trafficking threatens communities in the region,” he added.
Michael McCaul, Chairman of the US House Foreign Relations Committee, confirmed that “Assad is bombing Syrians and undermining regional stability”, thinking that “normalization now legitimizes him as the head of a terrorist organization”. It nationalizes and consolidates (influences) Iran.
McCall said in a tweet that he believes “returning the Syrian regime back to the League of Arab States was a strategic mistake and that Arab countries should step back immediately”.
