US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that its forces targeted a prominent leader of “ISIS” in northern Syria at dawn on Monday, accusing it of “planning terrorist attacks in the Middle East and Europe”.
Centcom spokesman Joe Buccino said a US helicopter conducted a raid in northern Syria that may have killed a senior ISIS leader.
Noting that “two more armed elements were killed in the American raid,” Buccino emphasized that “the operation did not result in the death of any American soldier or civilian and did not damage the helicopter.”
A source from the “Northern Brigade” faction of the Syrian opposition confirmed that seven helicopters participated in the airstrike on the village of As-Suwayda, in the Jarablus countryside east of Aleppo, which resulted in the arrest of five people.
Speaking to the German news agency, the source stated that 2 people from the “Northern Brigade” were killed and 4 people were injured in the clashes with the coalition forces, “One of the helicopters was damaged as a result of this attack. It was shot down.”
Local residents said that among the detainees was one person from the city of As-Safira, in rural Aleppo, who had been living in the village of As-Suwayda for several months.
