The Progressive Socialist Party in Lebanon condemned the forced and arbitrary deportation of Syrian refugees to their country.
Led by Lebanese leader Walid Canbolat, the party urged his country’s authorities to abide by human rights principles.
In a statement, the party said that any step towards the repatriation of Syrian refugees to Syria can only take place under conditions of voluntary and safe return, until a comprehensive political solution that explicitly includes the refugee file.
On the other hand, Hector Hajjar, Minister of Social Affairs of the Lebanese interim government, evaluated in a tweet he shared on Twitter that the Syrians who were deported recently entered the country illegally.
He explained that the Supreme Defense Council decided to deport anyone who entered Lebanon illegally in 2019, and that it is the duty of the security forces to protect the country’s national security and enforce the laws.
