The US Treasury Department, in cooperation with the Turkish government, imposed sanctions on two individuals linked to the financing of the “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” and the “Tawhid and Jihad Brigade” in Syria.
The US Treasury Department said in a statement that the sanctions targeted “Tahrir al-Sham” leaders Omar al-Sheikh and Kublai Sari, who received money from donors to the “Tawhid and Jihad” battalion in Turkey. It is subject to sanctions by the United States and the United Nations.
He pointed out that the new measures are a continuation of the previous joint measures between the US and Turkey that targeted a large financial network of ISIS on January 5.
The new sanctions ban the property and assets of Omar al-Sheikh, nicknamed “Abu Ahmed Zakur”, directly or indirectly, for working for or on behalf of “Tahrir al-Sham” in Turkey and the United States.
And the US Treasury stated that Omar Sheikh is the leader of “Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham” and is a member of the Shura Council and Emir of the “Army of Aleppo” and oversees the economic portfolio. He is a member of “HTS” abroad and has been serving as the Head of Public Relations Office since October 2022.
