One US soldier was killed and five American soldiers were injured in the attack by the Iranian militia on the International Coalition base in eastern Syria.
Local sources said a drone believed to belong to Iran attacked a facility used by the International Coalition for maintenance near the city of Hasakah on Thursday evening.
And the US Department of Defense announced that a contractor was killed and five US soldiers were injured.
In response, the US military launched several airstrikes targeting Iranian militia positions in Deir ez-Zor Governorate.
According to “Global Justice News” sources, the American bombing targeted an ammunition depot belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards militia in the Harabish district of Deir ez-Zor.
The Pentagon said the attacks came in response to an attack targeting a US-led coalition base near Hasakah in northeastern Syria around 1:38 pm (10:38 GMT) on Thursday.
He pointed out that the US intelligence estimates showed that the unmanned aerial vehicle targeting the positions of the international coalition in Hasakah originated in Iran.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin confirmed that the attacks were carried out in response to Thursday’s attack, as well as a series of recent attacks by Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and allied groups against coalition forces in Syria.
“These precision strikes are aimed at protecting and defending US personnel, and the US has taken proportionate measures to reduce the risk of escalation and minimize casualties.”
“As President Biden has made clear, we will take all necessary measures to defend our people and will always respond when and where we want. No group will strike our forces with impunity,” Austin said.
