Oraib al-Rantawi, director of the Center for Political Studies in Jerusalem in the Jordanian capital, evaluated that the Americans do not care much about the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar Assad. rather, they believe that by “weakening the Russians and Iranians” and under international sanctions, Iran and Russia are weak on money.
Rantawi said the United States is more concerned with the wider geopolitical implications of rehabilitating Syria than its future.
According to the “Media Line” newspaper, Al-Rantawi said that Assad would not be invited to the next Arab summit, suggesting that the foreign minister or another low-level Syrian official would be invited as an observer.
The US Ambassador to Jordan, Henry Wooster, confirmed last Sunday that his country does not support the normalization of relations with the Assad regime and does not see close relations with the Syrian regime due to the failure to meet the agreed conditions with the Syrian regime. The international community stating that, according to Security Council Resolution 2254, normalization requires finding a permanent and sustainable political solution.
