US President Joe Biden sent a letter to the Senate and House of Representatives, explaining the reasons for the recent US raids on Iranian militia areas in northeastern Syria.
Biden said he was directing US forces in eastern Syria to launch precision airstrikes on facilities used by Iranian Revolutionary Guard groups to store ammunition and other targets.
Biden explained that these attacks came with the aim of deterring these militias, reducing the risks of escalation and preventing civilian casualties, underlining any effort to launch attacks against the United States and its partners.
He stressed that he oversees the implementation of this military operation in accordance with its responsibility to protect US citizens at home and abroad and to enhance the national security of the United States.
He also stressed that a series of attacks launched by the US military complied with international law and the US right of self-defense, demonstrating that his administration was ready to do whatever it took to protect Americans.
And last Friday, the US Department of Defense announced the execution of precision airstrikes in eastern Syria targeting two facilities used by Iranian Revolutionary Guard groups.
These attacks came in response to a drone strike that targeted a maintenance facility at a Coalition Forces base near Hasakah, killing an American contractor and injuring five American soldiers and another contractor.
