The US Central Command, which oversees US forces in the Middle East, said 23 US soldiers in Syria suffered brain injuries in two attacks by Iran-backed militias.
“We identified 11 additional cases of mild traumatic brain injury in the March 23 and 24 attacks in eastern Syria,” the statement said.
Twenty-three of the wounded have been evaluated as mTBI cases, our medical teams continue to examine and evaluate our soldiers for mTBI indications.
As a result of airstrikes and counterattacks in Syria, 25 American soldiers were injured, resulting in the death of one American contractor and the injury of another.
The Pentagon estimates that eight militants were killed in retaliatory US airstrikes on two Iran-linked facilities in Syria.
It is not the first time that US soldiers in the region have been diagnosed with brain damage as a result of the attacks.
In 2020, more than 100 American soldiers were diagnosed with traumatic brain injury caused by an Iranian missile attack on a base in Iraq.
