The head of the Consumer Protection Association, Abdulaziz Al-Maqali, predicted that the price hike in the month of Ramadan will increase to about 15% in regime-controlled areas, after it has risen by about 30% for local products since the beginning of the year.
He stressed that raising salaries and wages in the public and private sectors has become a need rather than a necessity in light of the lack of purchasing power as a result of poor salaries, calling on the government of the regime to find appropriate solutions and not resort to “patchwork” solutions.
He called for creating competitiveness in light of the inability of the Ministry of Internal Trade to control prices, stressing that dealing with reality has become greater than the capabilities of the government of the regime.
He pointed out that some families have begun to buy potatoes by the grain, pointing out that proteins are no longer present on the Syrians’ table, after a kilogram of red meat reached 90,000 Syrian pounds, and the price of a kilogram of chicken rose to more than 25,000 Syrian pounds.
He pointed out that fraud has become present in most locally produced food industries, such as dairy and cheese, which have become without nutritional value, explaining that some products have decreased in price at the expense of quality and nutritional value, in light of the weak purchasing power.
