Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, discussed the Syria case and emphasized the importance of continuing the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Damascus.
In a statement from the Kremlin, Erdogan said in a phone call with Putin that he praised the “constructive” role of Russia’s mediation in the normalization process between Turkey and the Syrian regime.
Al-Watan newspaper, on the other hand, reported that consultations and diplomatic contacts are continuing for Turkey, Russia, Iran and the regime’s deputy foreign ministers to meet in Moscow.
Claiming that there was “convergence” at some points that had prevented the meeting so far, he explained that the probability of holding the meeting increased.
The newspaper added that the guarantees that the regime insisted on Turkey’s withdrawal from Syrian territory and the cessation of support to Syrian opposition groups are still on the table and will form the basis for possible political talks. The regime and Turkey will start together at one table.
