The State of Qatar affirmed that the political solution in Syria has reached a dead end as the Assad regime adheres to the military and security option of killing, destruction, torture and displacement.
This is the 52nd session of the Human Rights Council on Tuesday by Hind Abdurrahman Al-Muftah, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
Al-Moftah said, “The current path to a political solution in Syria has almost reached a dead end, due to the frivolity of the Syrian regime and its insistence on using security and military solution based on arbitrary detention. enforced disappearance, killing, torture, extermination, forced displacement, siege, use and deliberate targeting of internationally prohibited chemical weapons.”
Al-Muftah touched upon the difficulties faced by the Syrian people in providing assistance to those affected by the earthquake that hit the country in the past few days, and the delay in reaching humanitarian and relief aid to the people most affected, particularly in northwestern Syria.
Reference was also made to the attempts of the Syrian regime to exploit the human tragedy to buy time and achieve political goals and gains.
The Qatari delegate stressed that these issues are a stark reminder that the status quo and incomplete solutions should not continue, and that actors and the international community should take further action to ensure the protection of the Syrian people, alleviate their suffering and ensure accountability. for all those responsible for the violations and crimes committed against them.
He also stressed the need to reach a peaceful solution based on the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2254, which will fulfill the legitimate aspirations of the Syrian people and preserve Syria’s unity, sovereignty and independence.
