Switzerland announced that it has expanded the list of sanctions against Damascus in line with the decisions taken by the European Union on the 24th of last month.
Switzerland’s State Secretariat for Economic Affairs said its list of sanctions includes 25 individuals and eight new entities.
In the statement, it was stated that Bashar Assad’s cousins Vasim, Samer and Mudhar Assad became the target of new sanctions on the grounds that they were “involved in Captagon smuggling” along with many other organizations. It is a business model that enriches the Syrian regime’s inner circle.”
According to the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation, “a large number of leaders, businessmen, militia members and those involved in the drug trade are on the list,” according to the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation.
The sanctions also affected the Russian engineering and construction company Stroytransgaz and the Phosphates and Mines General Company of the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.
The sanctions also include security companies used to finance militias and their rulers, including the Al-Areen Charitable Foundation led by Esma Assad, which “distributes aid in accordance with the regime’s policies and priorities,” according to the statement.
