SYRIAN INDEPENDENCE ALLIANCE (SIA)The Global Justice Organization – Syrian American Initiative (SAI) announces its call to independent organizations and Syrian movements operating in the United States, Europe, Syria, neighboring countries, and around the world to form an independent joint task force, serving the best interest of Syrians as an emergency committee. This committee will address the repercussions of Arab and regional normalization with the Assad regime on the Syrian cause, which may result in the squandering of Syrian rights and the abandonment of the principles of justice and accountability, as well as the fulfillment of the people’s demands guaranteed by international law and United Nations resolutions, particularly Resolution 2254.
This task force is committed to restoring the independence of Syrian decision-making and working collectively to keep the Syrian interest and cause at the forefront of global attention. This goal is crucial to honor the sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of martyrs and detainees, and the millions forcibly displaced from their homeland. While understanding the sovereign interests and decisions of each state and their right to adopt independent stances free from external influence, the task force equally emphasizes the Syrian people’s right to independent national decision-making and rejects any dilution of their cause through the reinstatement of legitimacy to a criminal regime that has killed innocents, destroyed Syria, committed war crimes, and enlisted terrorist organizations to save itself.
Syria belongs to all Syrians, and it takes pride in its Arab pioneering role and the diverse cultures that enrich it. Its affiliation with the Islamic and Arab worlds reflects its civilizational and foundational role within them, which obliges us to preserve and draw upon our significant human heritage among the peoples of the region and the world. This is essential to restoring our country to its true stature, after Assad has reduced it to a pawn on the international table, manipulated by interests and separatist and fragmentation projects.
We believe that a people who accept their decision-making to remain incompletely independent are living with their hands tied. Therefore, we have concluded that the only solution to restore free Syrian decision-making is through action with a free will to implement international decisions and hold those responsible for crimes accountable, to build a democratic civil state with real institutions that believe in coexistence, good neighborliness, development, and equality as ultimate choices for the Syrian people.
This task force will be named the “Syrian Independence Alliance” (SIA), and the concept of independence in its name signifies empowering Syrians and the Syrian state we aspire to, allowing them to act freely without external control or influence. The task force will hold regular meetings to facilitate its joint work, communication, and coordination, and will address the international community to assume its responsibilities and contribute to changing the current situation in Syria. The joint task force, which will have a representative from each organization or movement, will strive to liberate our country from all forms of direct or indirect dominance.
The “Syrian Independence Alliance” (SIA) team has established a temporary headquarters at the Global Justice – Syrian American Initiative office in Washington, D.C., located at The Willard
Building, 1455 Pennsylvania Ave NE, Washington, DC, Suite 436, with its main office in Geneva, Switzerland, at Chemin des Mines 2, Sécheron, Geneva 1202, Switzerland. The permanent headquarters will be in Damascus after its liberation. Therefore, we invite all independent Syrian organizations and movements to join this team and contribute to the development of its strategies to achieve our common goal for our homeland, Syria.
