The Free Syrian Army, stationed in the Al-Tanf region, announced the seizure of a shipment of drugs heading from the areas controlled by the Syrian regime towards Jordan and the Arab Gulf states.
The army said in a statement: It was able – with the support of the international coalition forces – to seize a large shipment of drugs, stressing that its forces “will continue to defend the area and keep it safe and free from illegal activities.”
It is not the first time that the “Free Syrian Army” announces that it thwarted an attempt to smuggle drugs to Jordan, as it announced on December 26 that a headquarters for drug smugglers had been raided, and 167,000 Captagon pills that were intended for smuggling to the Gulf countries were confiscated.
On November 18, the army announced that the intelligence department and its security forces had managed to confiscate a shipment of narcotics that entered Area 55.
During that operation, the army confiscated more than 60,000 Captagon pills, and confirmed in a statement that the shipment was smuggled from the areas controlled by the Syrian regime to the 55 area in southeastern Syria.
It is worth noting that the “Free Syrian Army” (the Maghawir al-Thawra faction, before changing its leadership at the end of last September), is present alongside the international coalition forces at the al-Tanf base and the 55th area located on the border triangle between Syria, Jordan and Iraq.
