Global Justice Syria News – Washington – Exclusive:
An informed source in the U.S. Congress told Global Justice Syria News that a hearing will be held on July 10th by the Helsinki Commission, which comprises both Republican and Democratic members from both chambers of the U.S. Congress. The purpose of the hearing is to present crucial testimonies regarding Assad’s crimes against civilians, as well as the involvement of Assad’s Russian and Iranian allies in the massacres committed against the Syrian people, and Assad’s regime’s collusion with ISIS.
The source highlighted that the primary goal of organizing this hearing is to support the Anti-Normalization with Assad Act and to hold his regime accountable for the atrocities it has committed, from the unlawful detention and targeting of civilians and protesters to flooding the region with narcotics.
The Syrian Emergency Task Force (SETF) has arranged for the witnesses to attend the hearing in coordination with the Helsinki Commission. Testimonies will be given by Mouaz Moustafa, the Executive Director of the Syrian Emergency Task Force, Maryam Kamalmaz, daughter of the Syrian American therapist Majd Kamlamz who was recently announced dead in Assad’s prisons, and the renowned Hollywood director M. Night Shyamalan, known for Bruce Willis’s famous film “The Sixth Sense.” Additionally, Diane Foley, the mother of veteran war journalist James Foley, who went to Syria in October 2012 before being kidnapped and executed, with his gruesome execution broadcast online, will also provide her testimony.
SETF stated that it will work on inviting more congressmen from various committees to attend the hearing to rally efforts to pressure the Biden administration, which had previously blocked the passage of the Anti-Normalization with Assad Act.
