Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi visited Damascus today, Wednesday, and met with the head of the Syrian regime, Bashar al-Assad, for the first time in 12 years.
SANA said that Bashar al-Assad and Raisi signed a memorandum of understanding for a comprehensive long-term strategic cooperation plan between the Syrian regime and Iran.
In the presence of al-Assad and my president, a number of cooperation agreements were signed in the fields of agriculture, oil, transport, free zones, communications and a number of other fields.
Following the signing of those agreements, Bashar al-Assad said: “There was an important space for economic relations in today’s discussion, the memorandums of understanding that were signed, and the projects that were discussed, and they are many and many that will give a great impetus to these relations through the development of mechanisms that raise the level of trade exchange and investment between the two countries.” .
Bashar al-Assad pointed out the need to take advantage of “the change in the economic map of the world and the gradual shift of balance towards the east, which would liberate international economies from the domination of the West and the blockade would gradually lose its effects,” as he claimed.
For his part, the Iranian president said: “We discussed developing relations in all fields, and we are determined to develop relations between us and the countries of the region.”
Raisi considered that “all memorandums of understanding, especially in the economic and trade fields, can be in the interest of both sides and in expanding relations between them.”
It is worth noting that Raisi’s reception in Damascus was carried out by chanting sectarian slogans from the Shiite sect, and uploading his pictures and pictures of the Iranian Supreme Leader and former commander of the Quds Force, Qassem Soleimani, who was killed in an American raid in Baghdad.
