The prices of Iftar and Suhoor meals in Damascus restaurants increased during the current Ramadan, by 100%, compared to last Ramadan.
The loyal newspaper, Al-Watan, said that the prices of iftar meals ranged between 70,000 and 150,000 Syrian pounds, including a main course, soup dishes, appetizers, Ramadan sweets, and drinks, while the prices of Suhoor meals ranged between 40,000 and 75,000 pounds, including fattah, vegetables, and salads, without including These prices are for shisha and coffee.
The newspaper quoted the owner of a restaurant as saying: “Although the customer sees the prices high, the Ramadan season does not provide additional profit to the restaurant owners,” due to the presentation of rich, varied and multiple dishes, indicating that the offers provided only guarantee not to lose at the end of the month.
The price hike affected Ramadan food and drinks in kiosks and pastry shops, as the price of soft drinks ranged between 10,000 and 16,000, plain mashed potatoes between 4,000 and 8,000 pounds, Qamar al-Din between 5,000 and 10,000, and liter licorice between 3,000 and 5,000.
As for sweets, the price of a kilogram of Nabulsieh Kunafa and Madluqa with cream ranged between 30,000 and 40,000, and a piece of Qatayef is four pounds.
