The head of the negotiating committee, Badr Jamous, denounced the Arab League’s decision to restore the Assad regime to occupy Syria’s seat in the league.
Jamous said in a tweet on Twitter that the decision to restore order to the Arab League is “a transgression of the regime’s crimes and a blow to the rebellious Syrian people, and ignoring their demands for change.”
Jamous pointed out that the Arab League did not consult the Syrian opposition on this decision, considering that this represents “a clear disregard for the will of the Syrians.”
He added, “We believe that what happened is killing the political process, pushing the Syrian people to continue their just revolution until the realization of their legitimate rights, and a complete disregard for the voice of the Syrian people in favor of interests between countries.”
He also stressed that “the regime’s return to the Arab League without the release of any detainee, the return of any refugee, or even the provision of any positive step in dealing with Arab or UN resolutions related to the political process, is a serious disregard for the aspirations and rights of the Syrian people, and will complicate The Syrian scene is more, and it will not contribute to achieving the desired stability and peace in Syria.”
It should be noted that the Arab foreign ministers agreed during an extraordinary meeting in Cairo today, Sunday, to return the Syrian regime to the Arab League after its membership was frozen more than 12 years ago.
