Turkish intelligence revealed new details about the operation to eliminate the leader of ISIS in Syria, Abu al-Hussein al-Qurashi, which took place last Saturday.
A Turkish security official said that last Saturday, the National Intelligence Service carried out an operation that lasted 4 hours, targeting a house where al-Qurashi was holed up in the town of Jenderes in the northern countryside of Aleppo.
The official indicated that the intelligence agents stormed the walls of the building and surrounded al-Qurashi, demanding that he surrender himself, but he refused and blew himself up with an explosive vest he was wearing.
Reuters quoted security sources as saying that the Syrian National Army, which is allied with Turkey, imposed a security cordon in the area before the start of the operation.
According to the Turkish official, Turkey had been monitoring al-Qurashi for some time, but decided last Saturday to carry out this operation due to information that the leader of ISIS had decided to move from the area.
According to Reuters, this operation came after intelligence cooperation and coordination between Turkey and Iraq, as well as the United States.
The sources also confirmed that the Syrian National Army discovered the whereabouts of al-Qurashi a while ago, when its members arrested two ISIS members who were trying to convey a message from al-Qurashi to Khaled al-Jubouri, who was recently killed in an American raid in Idlib.
