Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu revealed the possible date for the quadripartite meeting on Syria, with the participation of the foreign ministers of Turkey, Russia, the Syrian regime and Iran.
Cavusoglu said in a statement on Friday that the intelligence chiefs of Turkey, Russia, Iran and the Syrian regime met 3 times, and the defense ministers twice, in addition to that a meeting was held at the level of deputy foreign ministers.
He added, “The next meeting will be at the level of foreign ministers of the four parties, and Russia has proposed holding it during the first 10 days of May, and this time suits Turkey.”
He pointed out that the meeting will be held in Moscow, and that Russia will talk with Iran and the Syrian regime about setting a deadline, and will inform Turkey of that.
And he added, “The holding of the meeting at the level of foreign ministers during the first 10 days of May is very likely.”
On the other hand, Cavusoglu confirmed that Turkey was involved in these negotiations due to the blockage of the political track in Syria.
He considered that the way to overcome this blockage is to ensure that elections are held in Syria within the framework of Security Council Resolution 2254, or to negotiate a road map between the regime and the opposition, otherwise it will not be possible to achieve lasting stability and peace.
