The United States has said it will not normalize relations with Bashar al-Assad and that its sanctions against Damascus will remain in full force.
White House spokeswoman Karen Jean-Pierre said Washington had notified its partners that it was bound by the “Caesar Act” sanctions and warned them not to risk exposure to sanctions.
Jean-Pierre added that Washington doubts Assad’s desire to take the necessary steps to resolve the Syrian crisis and is in agreement with his partners on the final goals.
In this context, Deputy Spokesperson of the US Department of State, Vedant Patel, stated that Washington shares a number of goals with its Arab partners in Syria, including finding a solution to the Syrian crisis in accordance with International Resolution 2254, noting that there is an opportunity to work against it. the “Iranian road” in Syria, in addition to drug trafficking.
Patel stressed the urgent need to expand humanitarian access to all Syrians, ensure the security and stability of ISIL’s inability to organize its ranks, create safe conditions for the return of refugees and release detainees.
